Sapota (Manilkara zapota), commonly known as chikoo, is a sweet tropical berry with rough, brown, potato-like skin. When ripe, its flesh turns a soft, caramel-brown color and has a malty, pear-like texture. It is exceptionally rich in natural sugars, dietary fiber, and essential minerals. Appearance: Round or oval, about 4–8 cm in diameter, with a dull, fuzzy, brown peel. Unripe fruits are firm and exude a sticky white latex. Taste & Texture: The flesh of a ripe fruit is incredibly sweet, often described as having a flavor profile similar to brown sugar, caramel, or malt. The texture is soft, juicy, and slightly grainy, much like a ripe pear. Seeds: The core contains 1 to 6 hard, shiny, black, bean-shaped seeds. They are inedible and should not be swallowed due to a hooked tip.
